Quanex defines product sustainability in terms of what a product does when installed or applied by a customer or an end-user; or on what it is made from. For the first time, we have collated revenues for the combined business from products that we believe have positive sustainability attributes in terms of:
- Products that save energy in use or facilitate the deployment of renewable power (e.g. Super Spacer®, EnergyCore® window profiles, window and door seals, thermally broken smoke vents and tilt ‘n’ turn micro-ventilation products that reduce energy losses in winter/heat gain in summer, energy storage solutions).
- Products that deter crime by being hard to break into (e.g. high security locks and smart alarms, lock down products and cut-resistant window screens).
- Products that protect against fire by having fire retardant or intumescent properties (e.g. fire rated doors, smoke vents and intumescent seals).
- Products that reduce ill-health and/or prevent injuries (e.g. fall protection products such as child safety mechanisms on windows, door handles with anti-bacterial coatings, safety ladders and railing systems).
- Products that are designed to meet the needs of disadvantaged or vulnerable groups such as the elderly and those with disability by supporting inclusive living (e.g. easy to use window/door hardware and automated systems.
- Products that protect against adverse weather events such as hurricanes, heat stress and flooding (e.g. severe weather rated window hardware, hurricane resistant roof hatches and flood tight doors).
- Products using substantial amounts of recycled content (at least 50-70% depending on material type and whether post or pre-consumer waste), contributing to a more circular economy (e.g. PVC piling products made from 100% pre-consumer or post-industrial recycled content).
- Products with longer lifespans / more durable vs traditional components (e.g. SolarGain® Edge Sealants extending the life of solar panels through superior moisture resistance).
In FY25, over $0.5Bn or 28% of total revenues were derived from these products.
A more detailed breakdown of these revenues is provided in the table below including how they support the Sustainable Development Goals. Products with energy efficiency, safety, fire protection, inclusive living and climate resilience all offer growth opportunities in both existing and adjacent markets.

A Bright Future
Our teams take pride in making energy efficient products and solutions that help our customers achieve higher levels of performance, helping conserve resources in end-use applications.
SolarGain Edge Sealant is a proven Polyisobutylene Based Pressure-Sensitive Adhesive that helps to delay moisture ingress and prevent premature power degradation in photovoltaic (PV) modules (commonly referred to as solar panels). The excellent adhesion of the sealant keeps moisture out and electricity in. The addition of desiccant to the adhesive creates a step change in delaying moisture migration to help protect cells, connections and conductive coatings from degradation. SolarGain Edge Sealant can help maximize performance and longevity.
“As solar panel manufacturers try to achieve higher and higher levels of module performance and longevity using greater moisture sensitive components, the need for higher levels of moisture protection throughout the photovoltaic marketplace are needed more than ever. With SolarGain technology, we can provide that protection, helping our customers in the solar power industry create more reliable modules.”
