Sustainability Metrics
Quanex acquired the Tyman business in fiscal Q4 of 2024. At this time, our sustainability disclosures are reported separately for each legacy business so that performance trends can be tracked on a comparable YoY basis. Disclosures for fiscal 2025 will reflect the segmentation for the combined business. Sustainability metrics for the legacy Quanex business (covering its global operations) for fiscal year 2022 to 2024 can be found below under North American Fenestration, Quanex Custom Components and European Fenestration.
Except as otherwise specifically discussed, we believe that each metric disclosed on this page is materially complete. We have included additional information where any assumption has been used or where we were unable to track a portion of any disclosed metric.

Using this waste material avoids the use of natural gas. Unused saw dust is sold for re-use in the agricultural sector (e.g. for animal bedding).

In considering our hazardous waste generation, we use regulatory definitions of what constitutes hazardous in each of the countries where we operate. Hazardous waste arising from our business in Germany (European Fenestration) includes a saline wastewater from the vulcanization process that would not be considered a hazardous waste in other jurisdictions. This waste is shipped off site and mixed with other industrial wastes for chemical treatment and incineration of the resulting residue fraction.

Legacy Tyman Sustainability Metrics
A data table can be found here for the legacy Tyman business covering global totals for a range of sustainability-related metrics. Carbon emissions (Scopes 1-3), operational energy usage, water and waste management, sustainable product information, safety statistics, employee gender information, training data and community initiatives for the fiscal years ending December 31st in 2019 – 2024 are provided for like-for-like comparisons over time. Future disclosures will be harmonized for the combined business for fiscal year 2025 by applying common data collection methodologies and alignment to the Quanex reporting year and new business segmentation.
Science-based Targets
The legacy Tyman business had its near-term Science Based Targets validated by the SBTi in 2023. Absolute Scope 1 and 2 emissions (market-based) on a 1.5C pathway continued to decrease in FY 2024 to 25,031 tCO2e (2023: 26,666). These reductions indicate the business remains on-track to deliver its near-term target of a 46.2 percent reduction to 23,226 tCO2e in 2030 vs. a 2019 baseline. Significant reductions were achieved in zinc diecasting operations during 2024, switching from a central ‘always on’ diecast system to localized, more energy efficient diecast units.
Absolute Scope 3 emissions for purchased raw materials (which account for 75 percent of the business’s value chain carbon footprint) in 2024 were 437,915 tCO2e (2023: 610,498) vs. a 2030 near-term target of a 27.5 per cent reduction (well below 2C pathway) to 421,395 tCO2. This reduction has been driven by lower production volumes and less reliance on spend data in North America for estimating emissions by moving to more weight-based data collected through ERP systems. Obtaining accurate and robust Scope 3 data is a key lesson learned that will be incorporated into re-baselining the combined business’s Scope 1-3 emissions footprint and setting a new science-based target for Quanex. This re-baselining work is expected to be complete in 2026.
Sustainable Operations
The legacy Tyman business reduced its absolute consumption of water by nine percent to 219,368 M3 in 2024 (2023: 240,747) and in water stress regions where the business has five plants in Italy, the US and Mexico, absolute water consumption continued to trend downwards to 197,916 M3 (2023: 217,913).
21 per cent of Tyman’s waste was sent to landfill in 2024, up from 16 percent in 2023 but down from the 2019 baseline of 36 per cent to landfill.
Safety is and has been, a top priority for both Quanex and Tyman. Tyman reduced its Total Recordable Incident Rate (TRIR) per million hours worked in 2024 to 4.6 (0.9 per 200,000 hours), a 40 percent reduction vs the 2019 baseline year of 7.6 (1.5 per 200,000 hours worked).
Sustainable Products
In 2020, Tyman began measuring its revenues attributable to products that have environmental benefits in use (e.g. energy saving or increased resilience to severe weather events such as hurricanes or flooding) or social benefits in use such as improved safety or health outcomes, reduced community crime rates or enhanced inclusive living for vulnerable groups.
Growth in sustainable product revenues of £145 million ($185m) in 2024 were flat vs the prior year, representing 23.5 percent of Tyman’s global revenues (2023: 23.5 percent, £155m, $193m). Quanex will apply an updated methodology to track revenues of sustainable products as part of its new sustainability strategy which is under development. This metric will seek to quantify and track products that have positive environmental or social impacts in use such as energy saving attributes (e.g. Super Spacer product) or contribute to the circular economy through increased durability (e.g. butyl seals for solar) and/or increased recycled content.

tCO2e = Metric Tons of CO2 equivalent
