Father and Son Find Common Ground in Coventry
The Blundred family is invested in the Edgetech UK facility in Coventry—in more ways than one.
“I joined Edgetech as a maintenance engineer 17 years ago, and the Coventry factory was something of an empty shell at the time,” said Jason. “I was sent to Cambridge, Ohio, IG Operations Plant to learn about their engineering and manufacturing processes, and it really opened my eyes to the challenge ahead.”
Today, Jason is head of operations for the Coventry plant, and his work in helping to develop the facility has been a true labor of love.
“The team here have put in a lot of hard work and really turned this place into something special,” Jason said. “My wife would tell you the plant is one of my children.”
Often during weekends and shutdown periods, being the only engineer onsite, Jason would bring along his son Daniel, to cover lone working.
“I’d come along with my dad when he was working weekends sometimes.” Daniel said. “I’d end up helping him with things.” Eventually, when Daniel was old enough, an opportunity to join the company presented itself.
Daniel joined the team in 2010, starting off working night shifts on the production line, leading to a supervisory role for a period of time. Today, he is a maintenance engineer and has continued to thrive in the family-like atmosphere that exists within Edgetech UK.
“Everyone gets on with everyone, and everyone is working toward the same goal of delivering for our customers,” Daniel added. “The maintenance team is very close-knit. We enjoy having a laugh, and we also enjoy learning something new every day in the work that we’re doing.”
And in working together, Jason and Daniel have forged a closer relationship than they might have otherwise.
“I know that Dan inspires me to be better,” Jason said. “It’s been a real joy to see him develop and flourish to where he is today—it’s a part of him I wouldn’t have been able to witness if we didn’t work together.”
