Our safety programs emphasize a focus to engage, communicate and protect each other to and reinforce our employees’ motivation to stay safe and keep each other safe.
Safety Programs
We have comprehensive safety programs and training to ensure our employees have effective tools to identify and eliminate unsafe conditions and at-risk behaviors to empower employees to communicate and take an active role in making important changes.
Safety Meetings
Employees take part in frequent safety meetings to ensure all safety measures are in place, as well as monthly safety meetings with upper level leadership. These are important touch points to clearly communicate expectations across shifts and give a platform for employees to ask any questions.
On-Site PT
We’ve implemented a program at every location to provide on-site physical therapists (PT) or exercise physiologists to manage ergonomic issues.
Management of Change
We work to minimize change-related safety risks through a robust Management of Change (MOC) Policy—requiring that all process changes are reviewed and approved by appropriate departments to ensure safe practices.
We strive for opportunities to create a diverse and inclusive environment, including a commitment to the advancement of women in manufacturing. As part of this commitment, Quanex is an official member of Women in Manufacturing—the only national organization dedicated to providing support to women working in the manufacturing industry. Through this partnership, Quanex offers a course for production employees to help them move up into management roles.
Susana, Production Supervisor
“As a woman in a male-dominated workplace, I understand how intimidating it can be. I felt that way myself at first. It’s perfectly okay to feel this way. It will gradually fade with the right attitude and a willingness to learn.”
Susana has been with Quanex for nearly 10 years. She started as a Production Associate and was promoted to Production Supervisor. Susana also serves on the Molalla, OR Employee Engagement Committee.
Lindsey, R&D Manager
“The industry can be pretty male dominated – I feel very fortunate that my experience at Quanex has been that they value women the same as they do men. I’ve never felt at any disadvantage here so I try to encourage women to go into STEM programs.”
Lindsey has worked at Quanex for 11 years. She started as an intern while earning her degree in Chemical Engineering and was then hired on as a full-time Chemist before being promoted to R&D Manager.
Kelly, Senior Quality Engineer
“I would give other women thinking about getting into manufacturing advice to say, never give up and stand up for yourself. Always know that you have a seat at the table.”
Kelly is a Senior Quality Engineer at the Quanex Cambridge plant. She is responsible for ensuring her departments produce the highest quality Super Spacer Dual-Seal and Dura Single-Seal Spacer products.
Quanex shows a commitment to community engagement by giving back to the neighborhoods in which we live. Whether it be volunteering, donating money or time, this improves community connection and demonstrates our commitment to social responsibility.
Enhancing Employee Morale
Employees often feel proud to work for a company that is actively involved in community initiatives. Participating in volunteer activities or charitable events can boost employee morale, foster teamwork, and increase job satisfaction.
Giving Back Through Quanex Cares
The Quanex Cares Committee is made up of a group of volunteer-minded Quanex employees who work together to identify, organize and drive charitable participation from the ground up at all of our facilities. Through the committee, we have already sponsored numerous food and supply drives and provided various opportunities for Quanex employees to participate in charitable initiatives such as cancer walks and holiday giving trees. And that is just a small part of what they hope to achieve!
