Employee Spotlight: Eric Thompson

In Focus is sitting down with Quanex employees who exhibit exemplary service to our customers. Our first spotlight is on Eric Thompson, commercial sales manager and 25-year Quanex veteran.

What inspires you at work?
Eric: I get my motivation from the people around me. I’m lucky to get to work with intrinsically motivated people who really care about each other and our customers. In the end, it’s all about helping people, whether it’s inside or outside the company.
What does Quanex’s service model mean to you?
Eric: It’s everyone’s responsibility to create great experiences for customers. Whether you’re working in accounting, on the loading dock, on the floor or out in the field, what you do impacts customers. Our dedication to service is part of our culture and everyone pulls together to simply do what’s right.
Tell us about a time you helped solve a challenge for a customer.
Eric: Providing solutions is what we do, so it’s difficult to choose just one. Overall, I believe that it’s the combination of the personalized service and innovation that help our customers navigate the intricacies of the market. We were the first to offer a warm-edge, flexible spacer for the commercial market, our market leading SuperCap SR Color technology and the first to develop a vinyl AW-rated system, among many other firsts. It’s a unique situation to be in where you have the right combination of talent, experience, product development and caring to solve any challenges that come our way.
You told us what inspires you at work. What inspires you in your personal life?
Eric: I love being at home with my wife. We do a lot of work with our Church, volunteer in the community by painting and working on homes and we do missionary work with a ministry in Indonesia. However, if you asked my wife, she’d say my primary inspiration comes from Auburn sports, which I can’t deny.
Last question. What are your goals in the coming year at Quanex?
Eric: We combined our talents and experts across Quanex when it comes to the commercial market. Together, we’ll focus on product development, market development and expanding product acceptance. It’s an exciting time to be at Quanex and I’m happy to be part of it all.
