In Focus is sitting down with Quanex employees who exhibit exemplary service to our customers. This month’s spotlight is on Allen Timmons, maintenance coordinator, Cambridge, Ohio.

IF: How long have you been at Quanex?
Allen: 7½ years.

IF: What is your role?

Allen: Prepandemic, I helped with maintenance organization and purchasing. I also coordinated the outside cleaning company, as well as our facility’s landscaping and snow removal. I am still handling all of this, but in the last 4–6 weeks, I have been heavily focused on COVID-19 supplies and related changes.

I have kept not only our plant in Cambridge stocked, but also 13 other Quanex facilities with hand sanitizer, wipes, gloves, masks and, of course, toilet paper. I have overseen donations of excess supplies to hospitals and first responders in the Cambridge area. I have also been a part of helping set up our areas to promote social distancing.

IF: Why is safety so important to you?

Allen: So I—along with my co-workers—can safely go home every night to our families.

IF: What’s your favorite part of your job?

Allen: It is fun to be challenged to save the company money without sacrificing quality.

IF: How are you involved in the community outside of work?

Allen: I am the president of the local chapter of The Sons & Daughters of the Army/Navy. Some of the activities we do include providing a free breakfast to local first responders and veterans one Saturday per month. The public is also invited for a small charge. The money raised is used to build ramps for our disabled veterans.
