Quanex Building Products Names Recipients of Annual McHattie Scholarship
HOUSTON, June 30, 2021 (NYSE: NX) – Quanex Building Products has named the recipients of its annual McHattie Scholarship, a program sponsored by the Quanex Foundation and named in honor of Quanex’s former president, William A. McHattie.
Each year, the scholarship is given to two children of Quanex employees. The recipients are selected by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation to receive a four-year grant for undergraduate study at an accredited college or university, funded by the Quanex Foundation. The winners are selected for their strong combination of academic and extracurricular attainments and their future potential for success in rigorous college studies.
This year’s winners are Julian Postak of Cleveland Heights High School in Ohio, the son of Lori Aruscavage Postak, senior technical product specialist and Thomas Zander of Richland 44 Public School in North Dakota, the son of Deena Andreasen, product development/configuration specialist.
Throughout his school career, Julian has excelled in math and science coursework and enjoys complex problem solving and helping his peers find success in these subjects. Julian participated in his high school’s Robotics Club, in which he and his teammates built complex robots to complete tasks. While building friendships with his peers, Robotics Club also solidified Julian’s interest in engineering. In the fall, he will be attending Northeastern University, where he plans to study mechanical engineering through the school’s honors program.

“Paying for college today can involve crushing debt, and receiving the McHattie scholarship is an amazing gift for our family,” said Lori Postak. “We are so proud of Julian for applying for the scholarship and for his dedication to learning that resulted in being named a recipient.”
Thomas’s favorite subjects include math and science, and he has played football and basketball throughout his school career, where he has built lasting relationships with his peers. He has also participated in youth football and basketball programs in his community, helping with whatever task is needed, from refereeing to scoring. He will combine his passion for science and athletics at Mayville State University, where he plans to pursue a degree in science with a minor in coaching and will play for the football team. He plans to pursue a career in high school education and coaching.

“The McHattie scholarship is truly an amazing opportunity,” said Deena Andreasen. “The scholarship will relieve much of the pressure of covering the expense of undergraduate studies. With the aid of this scholarship, he is more confident he will be able to continue to complete a master’s in education following his undergrad studies.”
“We believe this is an important program for Quanex because it highlights our commitments to both our employees and the communities in which we operate,” said George Wilson, president and CEO, Quanex Building Products. “This granting of these scholarships is an investment in our teams, their families, and the local communities where they live.”
