Friends, Co-Workers Mourn Loss of Industry Veteran
Tim Harris, Quanex Building Products’ technical services manager, passed away Thursday, April 23, 2015, as a result of injuries sustained at a customer’s window and door facility. Harris spent more than 40 years as a fenestration industry professional, holding positions at Norton Sealants, Besten, Tremco, Truseal and, most recently, Quanex Building Products.
Harris was well known throughout the industry because of his passion for service, regular visits to customer facilities and his active involvement with various organizations, including the Sealed Insulating Glass Manufacturers Association (SIGMA) and the Insulating Glass Manufacturers Association (IGMA). He chaired several committees for both organizations, produced the first glazing video used by IGMA and helped write and publish the original SIGMA glazing guidelines, which are still widely referenced today.
His long career and list of accomplishments also included managing a technical services department and helping to develop and launch new products, including the Dura Spacer product lines.
“Tim worked tirelessly and was always the voice of the customer, whether at industry committees, internal meetings or on the customer’s shop floor,” said Jim Baratuci, Harris’s long-time co-worker and Quanex’s recently retired VP of research and development. “He had contacts at hundreds of companies and counted many co-workers, customers and even competitors as friends. But more than accomplishments, Tim valued relationships and his family. He will be sorely missed.”
"We are truly saddened by this tragic loss of our friend and co-worker. Tim was a kind, supportive, positive and caring person who was always a pleasure to be around, and his passion for our industry and for our customers won’t soon be forgotten,” said George Wilson, general manager, Quanex Building Products IG Systems. “Safety is a core value of who we are at Quanex and we hope everyone in the industry will reflect on the safety of all operations within any plant or warehouse associated with fenestration. Our condolences go out to Tim’s wife, Gail, and the entire Harris family during this very difficult time.”
Calling hours will be held on May 2, 2015, at the Stroud-Lawrence Funeral Home, 95 S. Franklin Street in Chagrin Falls, Ohio. His family asks that no flowers be sent. Donations can be made to the Pan Ohio Hope Ride in the name of Tim Harris’s son, Scott Franklin Harris. The Pan Ohio Hope Ride is an event that raises money for the American Cancer Society.
