USGBC Backs Off on Proposed Changes Until October

June 06, 2012

We are seeing positive signs that the work Quanex is doing in conjunction with the Vinyl Institute is beginning to pay off. As most of you are aware, the USGBC proposed changes for 2012 that added a new point category referred to as Disclosure and Avoidance related to a list it refers to as Chemicals of Concern, which include many common materials in building products, such as PVC.

We are happy to report that on June 5, the USGBC announced they will postpone proposed changes until October 2012 to allow ample time for stakeholder input (download the letter from USGBC).

This is an important issue for our company and we will continue our efforts to fight these changes to LEED. As we move forward, we’ll continue to keep you updated. If you have questions or comments, please feel free to contact me directly.
