EPA Releases v6 Final Draft

The much-anticipated Final Draft of ENERGY STAR® v6 product specifications for qualified windows, doors and skylights is now available. Download now.

The chart below shows the energy efficiency requirements for windows:

Climate Zone U-Factor SHGC
Northern ≤ 0.27 Any
North-Central ≤ 0.30 ≤ 0.40
South-Central ≤ 0.30 ≤ 0.25
Southern ≤ 0.40 ≤ 0.25

Many in the industry have made contributions to shaping these new specifications that will go into effect January 1, 2015. We encourage you to voice your opinions. Written comments on the proposed Final Draft specification should be submitted to the EPA at windows@energystar.gov by Wednesday, August 21, 2013. The EPA will post all comments to the ENERGY STAR Product Development website, unless the submitter requests otherwise.

Update: August 23rd, 2013:

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has received a request for additional information related to the characteristics of the incremental cost data provided by windows manufacturers to EPA in the ENERGY STAR Windows, Doors, and Skylights Version 6.0 Specification Revision Process. The attached document is provided in response. This document will also be posted on the criteria revision website (https://www.energystar.gov/index.cfm?c=revisions.residential_windows_spec).

Stakeholders may comment on this and the other documents posted on the criteria revision website until Friday, September 6, 2013. Comments must be submitted to windows@energystar.gov.
