Laminated Interior Finishes

All the Beauty of Wood with the Durability of PVC

Quanex stainable-paintable real wood veneers are laminated to PVC profiles, providing fabricators a more cost-efficient “snap-in” option to milled wood parts. A veneered PVC profile can be designed to integrate into a wood window or door, thus providing cost savings without losing the beauty of real wood. Compared to milled wood, these veneered profiles can enhance the look of a wood window or door, since veneers provide a more uniform grain pattern without knots. These laminated profiles can also be pre-cut and punched and notched to save window makers labor and increase productivity. Laminated veneers offer the richness of real wood interiors while satisfying homeowner needs for low-maintenance.

Quanex also offers capabilities in pre-fabricating profiles so window manufactures save on total window costs. Profile ends can be notched and hardware slots punched so the profile is “pre-finished” and ready to snap into the fabricated window.

Quanex offers several standard wood species to complement wood interior doors and trim: Ponderosa Pine, Red Oak, Maple and Cherry to match premium wood window interior options. Special order species include Douglas Fir, Alder, White Oak and Mahogany.

Real Wood that Looks Even Better

High quality veneers provide grain uniformity without knots to deliver more consistent appearance for your wood windows and doors. Unlike solid wood profiles which have some cross-grain surfaces, wood veneers are cut from the vertical grain structure of wood. Compared to a milled solid wood profile, vertical grain can only appear on one surface, which can leave unsightly “slash” grain on remaining visible surfaces. Veneered profiles allow the best looking vertical grain cut to wrap onto all visible surfaces.

A Solution to Hard-to-Find Quality Wood

To meet the aesthetic quality demands of architect specifiers and upscale homeowners, premium-grade wood window and door manufacturers are finding it more challenging to source quality solid woods with consistent grain patterns and coloration. Companies are being forced into global sourcing. Rising transportation costs are also pressuring solid wood material costs. Using veneered PVC profiles where possible, can help relieve some of this supply pressure.

Wood grain film laminates

Wood grain film laminates are also available in Natural Oak, Harvard Oak and Cherry. Wood Grain Film Laminates can also be used in any combination with any exterior colors.

Quanex Interior laminates use our unique SprayTech ™ System. The vinyl profile surface is primed to help provide a superior bond between the vinyl profile and wood grain laminate. The vinyl and laminate are then heated before application to achieve permanent hold between the two surfaces. After application, the wood grain laminate is precision trimmed to match the profile shape.
